After Raeburn Van Buren had hung up the phone following his first conversation
with Al Capp, he was sure he had done the right thing in rejecting Al's
invitation to draw a new comic strip. But Al Capp’s persistence led to Abbie
an’ Slats, a strip that Van Buren drew for over forty years! Al Capp was already famous as the creator of Li'l Abner. Van Buren was well known as a fine artist and painter. Two volumes
of this strip’s brilliant humor, bathos and beautiful art are available.
In Volume 2, a selection of Sundays is offered. Many
of the selections in both books are reproduced from syndicate proofs which splendidly display Van Buren's fine line. 7x10,
80 black and white pages each plus square spine color covers.
