X-9 : Secret Agent CorriganAl Williamson's run on Secret Agent Corrigan from 1967 to 1979 stands as one of the artistic highlights in the history of the American comic strip. Williamson's delicate line-work, coupled with a style both realistic and atmospheric, enhanced the no-nonsense story of Corrigan. Secret Agent X-9 was created in 1934 by hard-boiled mystery writer Dashiell Hammett and boasted the art of Alex Raymond. When Hammett and Raymond left the strip, Mel Graff took over for over 20 years. Graff gave X-9 the name Phil Corrigan and fleshed out his private life. Following a stint by Bob Lubbers, Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson combined to give the strip it's most memorable run from 1967-1979.
