Silver Age Green Lantern Archives
Green Lantern Archives. Written by John Broome with art by Gil Kane and Joe Giella. When DC began its revival of superhero characters in the 1950s and 1960s, The Green Lantern was their second choice after The Flash. In October 1959, under the direction of editor Julius Schwartz, writer Gardner Fox and artist Gil Kane introduced The Green Lantern in Showcase 22. This time, The Green Lantern was "test pilot Hal Jordan who had assumed the mantle from a dying, red-skinned alien. His powers, including the almost invincible power ring, were the same as the 1940 version, except that his ring was inoperative against yellow. Gardner Fox made the feature an amazing sample of scientific fantsasy..." and "...artist Gil Kane made the strip into one of the best drawn of the 1960s." - Maurice Horn, World Encyclopedia of Comics. These issues are among the best of its time. Also reprinted are the issues' original covers.

The 1960s were a time of change and O'Neil and Adams were in the vanguard of change in comics. You all know the story by now, O'Neil and Adams were brought in (and pretty much given free reign) to save the low-selling Green Lantern from cancellation. They paired the feisty Green Arrow with the straight-laced Green Lantern. The two did more than fight crime, they addressed social ills in a way that elevated the comic book to a serious art form. Introduction by O'Neil.
